Some Interesting I.Q. History and Links

~ IQ Info ~

The history of the IQ test begins with a certain Sir Francis Galton. In the aftermath of Darwin's theory on the evolution of the species, the field of Social Darwinism held that only a small percentage of humankind were indeed of high intellect, a small percentage of low intellect and a greater number of average intellect types.

In the 1890s, an American student of Galton's, James McKeen Cattell, brought the idea of intellect scoring to America. Cattell's work caused brief but intense mental IQ testing in America. What proved to be the test's downfall, however, was that scoring well on the Galton test did not indicate if a student would do well on schoolwork, which was considered the practical proof of good mental ability.

During WWI, intellect rating came to its maturity as IQ tests were devised to quiz soldiers and place them in positions within the military based on their aptitude levels.

Fast forward to the present, and an amazing number of people just like you search for IQ information online each and every day. Self administered testing has taken off, as the era of self-improvement has overwhelmed the United States. IQ is now a major industry, employing professionals in schools, online, still in the military, and even on Fox's new Show "Test America."
